Etna summit craters: the northern guided programme

The programme I offer

My private summit-crater trek starts at Piano Provenzana on Etna’s north side. It lasts about five hours in total, including the listed 4x4 transport and walking. This is not the southern cable-car programme.

Altitude follows the conditions

The published programme aims for the summit-crater area around 3,300 m where allowed. Exact route and reachable altitude depend on restrictions, volcanic activity, weather and group assessment. Neither the topographic highest point nor active lava is guaranteed.

Walking and suitability

The minimum age is twelve. Loose volcanic ground and the descent require preparation; five hours is the excursion duration, not five hours of continuous walking. Fitness does not remove altitude risk. Discuss relevant medical conditions with your clinician and report symptoms promptly to the guide.

Equipment, price and meeting point

The private guide fee is €500 for up to six people, plus €50 per person for the indicated transport. A helmet is included; follow the page’s personal equipment list. Reach the mountain meeting point with your rental car. No accommodation transfer or rental clothing package is included.

A different route may be the better choice

Compare Sartorius, 2002 Craters or Cable Car & 4x4 if their programme better matches the group; the latter still reaches altitude and includes walking. If conditions prevent the booked route, choose a practicable alternative, another date or full refund. A guide’s presence does not override restrictions or eliminate volcanic risk.
