Etna sunset trekking highlights
This tour as been create to enjoy the freshness of Mount Etna during the hottest summer days surrounded by the amazing colors of the sunset.
The tour start 2 hours before the sunset at Piano Provenzana, the northern base of Mount Etna where you will meet your volcanological guide. Here you will receive a brief introduction to the geology and history of the volcano.
From there, you will start your hike along the eruptive fractures of 1911 and 1923, which opened the way for the lava flows that reached the town of Linguaglossa. You will admire the contrast between the black lava and the green vegetation, and learn about the flora and fauna that live on the volcano.
You will then reach the Bottoniera, a series of small craters that formed during the 2002 eruption, one of the most violent and destructive of the last century. You will see how the huge lava fountains and the ash plumes that rose up to 10 km in the sky, and the lava flows that destroyed the tourist facilities and the forest.
As the sun sets, you will enjoy the spectacular colors of the sky and the landscape, and the magic atmosphere of the volcano. You will have a chance to take amazing photos and to ask your guide any questions you may have about Mount Etna and its activity.
The hiking excursion lasts about 3 hours and covers a distance of about 5 km.
